NiMH & Li-Ion Battery Monitoring

Introduction

The BQ29311 and BQ2083-V1P3 Battery Management ICs by Texas Instruments are a very useful combination in the area of robotics. Among many other tasks these ICs are capable of determining the voltage and current capacity of up to 4 Li-Ion or NiMH cells in series. We are able to capture this data in real time over the SMBus (System Management Bus) protocol which was defined by Intel® for use in PCs.
