It's not clear what's in the $89 kit. Baseboard + Servos + LiOn ? I like the layout/size of the modules. How about a baseboard with a socket for SMT 100pin modules with various possible CPUs (XMEGA or ARM or PIC)? Like Sparkfun's ATMEGA 64 pin break out.
